Where: Devos-Blum Family YMCA: 9600 S. Military Trail, Boynton Beach, FL
Why: The Florida Traffic and Bicycle Safety Education Program (FTBSEP) is a statewide, comprehensive training program, funded by the FDOT Safety Office, which teaches individuals how to be more competent and safer pedestrians and bicyclists. In addition to training individuals, the FTBSEP uses a train-the-trainer model to teach training workshop participants how to teach and lead pedestrian/bicycle safety education initiatives in their area. Participants will be certified to fit bicycle helmets which will allow them to order free helmets from the Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Resource Center. Additionally, participants will be able to check out the bike trailers to use for events.
What will participants learn?
This 6-hour workshop teaches participants:
- Obligation of Bicyclists/rules of the road
- Riding in a variety of situations
- Bike inspection and maintenance
- Types of bicycles and bicycle fit
- Gearing up/getting ready to ride
- On-bike practical skills
What do participants need to bring?
Please bring a bicycle and helmet. If you do not own a bicycle or helmet, there may be a limited number available; but you must indicate you will need a bicycle or helmet when pre-registering. Please dress in comfortable clothes and closed-toed shoes appropriate for bicycling.
